I'm very new at building Apache, and am attempting to follow the instructions found in the file INSTALL.Win32 found in the mod_ssl-2.3.80-1.3.39 file.
What is $INSTALLTOP supposed to be as referenced in that file?

Wherever you decide to install Apache
c:/Apache
or
c:/program files/apache group/apache
or
f:/anynameyouwant
Apache has a directory tree, the top directory is INSTALLTOP, using just C:/apache then
c:/Apache <-- INSTALLTOP
c:/Apache/bin
c:/Apache/cgi-bin
c:/Apache/conf
c:/Apache/htdocs
c:/Apache/icons etc etc. |
