It's available for download but only the source. There are no Windows binaries available and by the looks of it, no immediate intension to make them available any time soon. Your best bet is to compile the source yourself or find someone else willing to do it for you. Otherwise, you're outta luck. Sad

I normally got the compiled version from this site. I guess I'll have to wait till vacations are over!

I'm surprised no one has put a version online yet. Most people I guess don't care about keeping stuff up to date. If it ain't broken why update it.

Well according to this post:
http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?117,186948,187067#msg-187067

You will more than likely have to find someone to compile it for you. Windows seems to be the last to see binary releases from both ASF and MySQL lately. Thank goodness for Steffin. Smile

I wonder why people are so anal... Seriously if it was not such a castle to change all my script to use PostgresSQL I would change just to spite the MySQL people. Not that they really care, they will make more money from going public.

I suspect Steffen means "human bandwidth" - not "download bandwidth".

There currently appears to be no place to download Windows binaries for MySQL 5.0.51 or 5.0.52.
I suspect if they were posted here, there would be very many MySQL support questions and discussions.

A few Apache-related MySQL posts are always OK here of course, but "Apache Lounge" could quickly become "MySQL Lounge" if it became the primary download location for MySQL Windows binaries.

Maybe "MySQL Lounge" is a good idea? A new MySQL web site which is not affiliated with MySQL A.B. (like Apache Lounge is not affiliated with the ASF).
This could be a place where MySQL programmers and users could meet outside of the "official" channels and share non-official binaries and ideas, etc.

Would you like to start a MySQL Lounge web site? I would certainly participate if you do.

I have to agree, this would not be the place to post and/or support such a thing. I do however think a MySQL Lounge is way overdue and I'd also participate. Seeing as how the official MySQL site/forum has become more geared towards MySQL Enterprise and are now paying less attention to the Open Source crowd, a MySQL Lounge would be a welcome sight and I'm sure quite popular.

Just my 2 cents. Smile

Would 3TB of bandwith a month be enough or do you expect it to be much more then that?

MySQLLounge.com with the 2 l's is (ll)ame... You'd have to think of a better domain ehehe... Maybe not ^_^.

re: "Would 3TB of bandwith a month be enough"

That could be a tricky question. Users can get a current Windows binary of Apache from either apache.org or from Apache Lounge - but with MySQL the current version isn't available anywhere else, so there could be many more downloads.

Also - with Apache, the source code is available via HTTP at apache.org, so only the changes to it (if any) need to be available via Apache Lounge to satisfy the Apache2 license.

With MySQL it isn't terribly difficult to access the BitKeeper repository - but it requires Cygwin and the free BitKeeper client prog. Since the GPL2 license for MySQL says that the source must be available, you may want to also host a copy of the source code too. About 80mb. Probably most folks would never download the MySQL source code, but having it on the web site might be a good idea in light of MySQL A.B.'s recent (and possible future) policy changes.

p.s. I kind of like the look of www.mysqllounge.com. The double-L is obvious and easy to remember. All in the eye of the beholder I guess.

"Seriously if it was not such a castle to change all my script to use PostgresSQL"

I completely agree with you, i have been looking at postgres for the last couple of days. It really comes down to this – either there is a compiled MySQL Enterprise version available or users with more than a basic project should be thinking about moving to another database.
It probably has been discussed a lot elsewhere, but as far as I understand they have removed access even to Enterprise version source code, which gets latest bugs fixed. What kind of open source software is it, if you can't get latest version of the code?! I could understand say some enterprise features removed, but I am still waiting for the “large query cache slow invalidation fix“, which was released after publicly available 5.0.45 version.

Regarding the compiled version – I tend to think that bandwidth would not be a problem – why not use free hosting providers, like rapidshare.de and hundreds of others?! – I would not mind downloading from one of those…!
Of course there would be more work for the forum administrator, to remove old links, when the software gets removed from free download site... It certainly would require some dedication…

I just setup a torrent server. I'll add a torrent soon if everything works out. We can all share in the bandwidth for the distribution.

Also you can first download XAMPP from http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html and use the included version 5.0.51 from this download.

Deleted since MySQL was already posted... No need for another link to it... If it goes down the other link I'll post mine...
