Hello I'm a total noob, but set apache server up on a spare box so that friends of mine can download big files faster (so I thought), than say filecloud or others that throttle the D/L bandwith. I've tried at three differant locations, all with cable or better and can't d/l faster than 100kb/sec. All can d/l from ATI/AMD, as an example, near 2.5 Mb/sec.
Is there a setting I can change in Apache script to allow faster downloads? Or is this a connection/ISP issue? I don't think it's a hardware issue because I've set it up on my gaming rig also with same results.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Great site I'm glad I found it!

you say cable or better, but what is this 'better' connection? I suspect that your connection's upload speed it to blame.

Better would be a 8mb down 1.5mb up and a T1 from work. since the files are uploaded from within the LAN to the server already. where does the upload come into play?
Thanks.

the upload comes into play when the server is trying to push the files onto the internet for your friends to download

All machines tested (6) at 710-745 Kbps upload regardless of claimed bandwith. Using DSL reports test. 1719 miles from test server.

now I'm really confused. Guess the extra money for a "fast connection" is pointless with Comcast.
