Wanna see some extreme CPU over clocking?
In the first video they get an P4 5Ghz, it never fails, the cpu, mb, all the busses, and so on all work.
The 5GHz Project
These guys just like to blow stuff up. But what this illustrates is just how incredibly fast a CPU will fail, or blow up in this case, without a heat sink. AMD's, which I am a big fan of, are the most vulnerable to go up in smoke.

Even though the P4 has internal protections, you crank it up past its limits and pull the heat sink off, you have a gun ready to go off.
