|
|
I published the SHA1 sum of the Apache binary on the download page.
What is SHA1 Sum?
SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm 1) Sum is method by which you can check the integrity of your download. You can compare the published SHA1 sum on the download page with the checksum of the downloaded file. You will need a small program to check the SHA1 sum. You can read all about SHA1 here.

SHA1, MD5, CRC,.... are all used...
MD5 is more popular though |

I picked SHA1 with no special reason, only that it is becoming more and mor used. SHA1 is considered to be the successor to MD5. And SHA1 has a hash size of 160 and md5 128, so "safer".

I just wanted to share sha1 and sha0 have both been broken by researchers from shangdong university in china and a collison is now easier than bruteforcing sha1 and sha0. the news has been posted in Bruce Schneier's (The author of blowfish and twofish) site a few month ago.
