Hi,

just a little bit of headsup:
I've just tagged the first beta and with that we entered the feature freeze for 5.6.0.
I would like to ask you to refrain from adding new features or extending the existing ones until we have the final release.

Expect me to start poking people about the open bugreports and test XFAILs, and also the missing UPGRADING entries because the most important thing is atm to make sure that we get a stable final release with proper documentation from day 0.

Of course master is open for new features (after making sure that the feature is supported by the majority of the devs, aka having a voted on RFC) and based on the recent discussion the next major should be branched out soon also.

Thanks for everybody making this possible!

Ferenc Kovács

PHP 5.6.0beta1 will soon be available from

The extensions in my 5.5.x & 5.6.x builds can be mixed with the php.net binaries.

It will become the main branch of PHP in the summer. And in the summer of 2015 PHP 5.5 will be out-of-support.

Come to think of it, PHP 5.4 will probably be out-of-support this summer.
