(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network
address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to
address
0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open
logs

This is the message I'm getting after I install apache_2.2.2-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi

What could be the problem?

I've tried changing the port to 8080, 3128, 5000, back to 80. Nothing works.

If you're going to say disable IIS I don't even think it's installed on my PC I've got windows XP pro and I looked in services and the only thing close to IIS is:

HTTP SSL (Not Started - Manual)

IPSEC Services (Not Started - Manual)

Nothing near IIS thought.

Also, I recently installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, I know that it added 3 services

    SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)

    SQL Server Active Directory Helper

    SQL Server Browser

All are Disabled. But could these have anything to do with the apache server not working?[/list]

Your problem could be 'Soft' Firewalls. Most Anti-Virus software packages now contain a firewall. Also, XP SP2 installs a 'soft' firewall. So, you need to open port 80.

BTW, after trying other ports without success it seems obvious that IIS would not be an issue. However, there are other Internet applications that by default use port 80 (for example Skype).

Wow.... Confused

I feel like such an idiot.

The soft firewall as you said.
I added 80 to my ports list and it fixed right up.
Worked perfectly. Thank you.
