I did some googling and searching on Apache lounge forums prior to posting this question, but I didn't find a definite answer to whether is it ok to use Apache Httpd v2.4.X VC10 (2.4.4 x86 VC10 from Apache Lounge in this case) together with PHP v5.4.X VC9 (5.4.12 x86 VC9 Thread-Safe from windows.php.net in this case)?
I'm simply not sure if it's safe to mix VC9 & VC10 versions - there are always some features that only improve the performance but on the other hand there are also the obsolete features which in-between versions due to differences might end up causing problems. Individual Apache modules are also a concern - one of the reasons I'm doing the current set-up is to be able add additional modules or simply update the modules already supplied in the package. Or am I completely wrong and the VC10 version is that much backwards-compatible with VC9 that it's not going to be any problem and is safe to be used for PHP VC9 and Apache/PHP modules compiled in VC9?
I could probably just install a suite like XAMP or WAMP but their installation setups don't offer any options for which individual components to install or not (this is why I liked the Zend Server CE which has been discontinued and replaced by Zend Server "Free" now). They also presented lot of problems due to their stubborn configuration which was often too much of a hassle instead of one-time configuration of all the required settings.
The machine I'm trying to set up is operating on Windows 8 Pro x64 and currently has Strawberry Perl and latest MySQL suite installed (MySQL server and workbench). I'm trying to set-up a clean Apache + PHP + MySQL setup for learning and testing php... consider it a basic development environment which I wish to be configured as an average production environment to avoid unexpected errors on a live production environment.[/i] |

No problem at all. This with php5apache2_4.dll module or mod_fcgid.

Great, thanks for the answer. I was worried it would cause problems when trying to install additional modules for Apache/PHP which would be compiled in VC9/10 or even VC8. |
