A lot Apacharians overlook the little nifty Benchmarking tool "ab.ex" which is included in the Apache binaries.

Run ../apache2/bin/ab.exe in a DOS box.

Code:
ab.exe -n 250 -c 15 http://127.0.0.1/

Do a total of 250 resuest 15 at the same to localhost

Code:
ab.exe -n 250 -c 15 -k http://127.0.0.1/

Do a total of 250 resuest 15 at the same to localhost while keep-alive is on

Code:
ab.exe -n 250 -c 15 -H "Accept-Encoding: gzip;" http://127.0.0.1/

Same as first one but it make apache pass the request to mod_deflate if its avaible

ApacheMon (see utilities section) has a handy GUI for this found onder: TrayIcon->Tools->Apache Benchmark

It allows to enter the number of request, the concurent request, compression, even a Authentication header.
