There are plans to stop making mod_security available. It is against the policy of Apache Lounge: Apache Lounge build and debug/test under Windows for modules-authors who are non-commercial. The term non-commercial refers to private and personal, and where there is no exchange of services, goods, money, stocks, or similar commodity of value.

Technically, it has always been a commercial product, even back when it was owned by Breach Secuiry Inc. What's changed? It's now under ASL 2.0 instead of GNU v2 ... which is nice. |

Did not realized before. Nope, starting with Breach it become more and more commercial.
Also, the notice file:
Copyright [2004-2011] Trustwave Holdings, Inc
This product includes software developed at
Trustwave Holdings, Inc (http://www.trustwave.com/).
Special the last, that it includes sofware by Trustwave, cannot find out which.

All things are copyright by the people/entity that create it, there's an implied copyright that holds in most countries, probably even yours. If you write it you own the copyright for 20 years.
Apache/mod_fcgid/mod_jk/etc. is copyright the ASF.
mod_line_edit Copyright (c) 2005-6, WebThing Ltd
mod_macro Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Fabien Coelho. All rights reserved. (Postcardware, he asks that folks send him a postcard)
mod_watch/mod_view copyright An thony How e and carries a very ugly license with it.The Snert license is horrible.
mod_websocket Copyright 2010-2011 self.disconnect
mod_xsendfile Copyright 2006-2010 by Nils Maier
You will never get away from the copyright in most cases so what really matters is the license, and the ASL should be good enough. The only one I do not like besides Snert's is the Creative Commons license. |

Ok, ok you convinced me, thanks. I shall continue mod_security. Got also lot of requests in the mail and get help with Windows quirks.
But I am not willing to continue to spend days and days to get mod_security working on Windows and iron out their bugs. Special with 2.7.0 rc1, spend lot of time.
Steffen
btw.
Everyone can put a notice that it is copyrighted, means not that much. But in this case Trustwave has registered things. What wonders me is that you nowhere have to agree on e.g. an ASL license, like with other software. |

Use typically constitutes agreement with the license.
Build with libxml2 2.8.0, save yourself some time. Will not build with 2.9.0 since the API has changed. |
