I'm having an argument with someone from my work.
The other guy is a linux fanatic and thinks Apache will run WAY faster on Linux then windows.
I think a processor can really only do so much no matter what the operating system and think these days with computers being so fast there really isn't a HUGE difference or any difference between running from Linux or windows.
What are advantages of one over the other when it comes to Apache and how much benefits or losses does one really get from running one operating system over the other? |

if you serving only static files than FreeBSD with event mpm is faster, as of I can say from my experience. In all other cases there was no difference.
But mind that you have to maintain your OS and know it. For many windows Administrators so it is easier to have apache on windows, since they already know the system. A well configured windows server system is as good as any other system of your choise.
When it comes to dynamic pages it is better to have faster CPU instead of more cores.
All this is just my experience. Other may think different. |
