Let me preface this post by letting you know I am a complete NooB...
I am running 2 machines at home. One, an older Dell laptop which runs XP 2001 with SP2. The other is a newer Gateway desktop which runs XP 2002 SP2
The only major difference is the laptop is an English OS while the Gateway is a Japanese OS (I currently live and work in Tokyo).
I have been able to successfully install mysql, apache and php on the laptop (big thanks to www.adcommcepts.com/wamp-install.pdf) but am unable to repeat the feat on the desktop. When I try I get the same error message so oft repeated on this board "Syntax error....can't load module into server."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Uninstalled, gone through my C:\windows and system32 directories with a fine tooth comb and cleaned out any php remanents and reinstalled. I've uninstalled, cleaned out my folders and did a system restore back to a time when I had never even heard of php, reinstalled and always get the same result.
I've tried running apache from a dos box with the command httpd.exe and httpd.exe -k debug and both times dos gives me the Japanese equivalent of "bad command or file name."
I can't imagine it being the case, but does the language of the OS affect installation? Or are traces of a botched installation haunting me from the registry? Or could it be as simple as a confused forward slash/ back slash\ ?
Sorry for the long post. I would really appreciate any help/comments you can offer. |

What message you get exactly when you do httpd.exe -k debug ?
What versions you try to install ( see the forum rules).

I am using Apache 2.2.22 mysql 5.0.21 and PHP 5.1.4 (sorry for not reading the rules before I posted).
When I type httpd.exe or httpd.exe -k debug I get the same message - httpd.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
To be sure, maybe I am mistaken what a "dos box" is. I have been using start -> Run -> cmd to get a command prompt. Is that what a "dos box" is?
Apache by itself works fine until I try to install php. The problems occur when I try to install php and replace the php5apache2.dll and update the httpd conf and php.ini files |

I talked with a friend who is a software engineer and he said that the OS language does not affect installation. So my problem must be a mistake I'm making during installation.
Thanks,
