With that in mind could someone explain why this website http://www.feather.com.au/ works okay in some countries but in others you just get an apache test page?

I am not quite sure. I've tried going to
http://feather.com.au/
http://208.xxx.xxx.xxx

All redirected me to
http://www.feather.com.au/

The only time I got a default page (though not Apache's standard "It Works!" was by going to;

http://www.feather.com.au/index.html

Since you are using rewrites, I will assume these hits from some countries are actually bots that scan the net constantly, looking for stuff to break in through, usually using lwp-perl or similar and therefore ignore the redirect.

Has anyone actually contacted you and complained?

thanks for the reply. It's not my website, thus my lack of knowledge - its a website my wife needs to access but cannot. We live in Dubai where it doesnt work but testing it from a US proxy works okay.

Then I guess they are using geoip to block certain countries (I do too but not the UAE).
