I was looking at the latest zip file and read the two readme's

Quote:
Minimum system required:

Windows Server 2008
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003 SP1
Windows XP SP2

Note: Win2000 and < Windows XP2 is not official supported.

I was perplexed by the Windows XP2 vs. Windows XP SP2

Now stoopid question #1,
What is "Windows XP2"?

VS 2008 Redistributable;

In our VS's we have /redist files and /noredist files. I'd assume that like some mfc's and other files that are redistributable, anything in the /redist is fair game.

Now stoopid question #2,
Why does the lounge not distribute the one 6??KB flie needed with Apache?
Bandwidth?

Sometimes a little enlightenment helps Idea

Thanks,
Gregg

re: Question 1 - Actually the Apache Lounge binary runs fine on Windows 2000. The compiler, Visual Studio 2008 (aka VC9), will not run on win2k.

re: Question 2 - I don't think there is any legal problem with Apache Lounge distributing the runtime libraries, but it could lead to some confusion because these libraries are potentially used by all software built with VC9, not just Apache.

If the libraries were provided directly for Apache, for example by putting them in the \bin directory - they wouldn't get updated by Microsoft update if there was a security patch.

Distributing the Microsoft-supplied .msi installer for these libraries would work OK, but many people are more comfortable getting their Microsoft runtime libraries directly from Microsoft.

This avoids any finger-pointing if some unrelated VC9 software crashes and Apache Lounge supplied the library.
i.e. no forum posts like "Acme SuperWidgets crashes and the stack trace shows it is in the runtime library installed by Apache Lounge...".

XP2 was a typo.

Indeed the readme is not quite correct. In the next release (2.2.9?) I shall correct it.

I changed some time ago already the announcement in:

Minimum system required:

Windows Server 2008
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003 SP1
Windows XP SP2
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

I removed:
Note: Win2000 and < Windows XP2 is not official supported.

Should add links to download page and then list this in the minimum system
requirements. Don't know about Vista but I needed this on my computer
running Windows XP SP2. The error was obscure and if I hadn't found it
using Google, I would never of known how to fix it. I didn't even catch the
reference to VS 2008 in the readme.

These links go to the download page and are NOT direct file download links.
And yes they really are that long.

On the download page the minimum requirements are listed.

As far i can tell there are two places in the Apache Lounge download refering to the VS 2008 download at MS.

Yep, you are right. I thought the redist might of already been on my computer. And the error I got without it on wasn't obvious as to the problem. That's what I get for assuming though and not reading very thoroughly.
BTW. These are the best builds I have found for my use.
