Hey Steffen, thanks very much for hosting the Win32 binary of mod_security. It's been serving me well (the one dated 2006 release). Just recently I tried to update to the newest version and get the message from Apache 2.2.3 that the file cannot be found. It is in the correct directory (same directory as last working version was), along with all the other stuff the notes mention to install (I notice the new build says you don't need them anymore, but they're there just in case I misunderstood you)
I have tried using both of the new mod_security2.so versions and can't seem to get it to find and load the file.. I've tried both 2.5.0 and 2.1.6 - which am I supposed to be using please? Any help you can offer is majorly appreciated! |

Any indication in Windows Event Log or Apache error.log ?
We only tested it on 2.2.8, maybe better you upgrade to it too (just copy the files over, exept the conf folder).

hmm well if I run httpd.exe from apache's directory in a dos box, I can see it's output. It says it can't find the file in the directory it is physically located in.. Windows's event log says syntax error in httpd.conf, cannot load same message. I will try copying the files over the top to update to 2.2.8 and post back again. Thanks mate |

No line number in the message ?
Looks like you have a fault in your conf.
Read carefully the readme.txt in the .zip's, starting with 2.5.0 the instruction is a little different.

Thanks Steffen, with Apache 2.2.8 it works just fine. I was a touch worried about copying straight over the top, as I don't know the intricacies of Apache really, but I just excluded the conf/ directory and it's all happy! The docs do say 2.2.x compatible though, maybe change that for the poor people who happen to have 2.2.3 as I did lol
I'm so glad I asked you- I was almost ripping out my hair as there was no reason I could see why 2.2.3 had stopped working after applying the newest version! Many thanks again champ, I hope you get some extra action today
<in reference to that line number, yeah it had one but its on another pc and not convenient for me to quote it was in fact the line saying loadmodule hehe. same with the error message, though it was just saying the exact thing it would say if you had deleted the mod_security2.so file and still tried loading it in your httpd.conf> |

I don't still have Apache 2.2.3 installed anywhere, nor do I have the .zip file.
I tried Steffen's mod_security 2.5.0 with Apache 2.2.4 (from Apache Lounge) and I had no problems.
Perhaps the problem is only with Apache versions prior to 2.2.4.
