Hello,

I have four own WordPress blogs and one customer's hosted by two providers.

All have additional directory protection for the backend with .htaccess and .htpasswd.

Everything is working well. Backend secured twice, frontend freely accessible.

I am currently configuring a blog for another customer with a third provider. It does not work there. Backend double secured, but the frontend as well. The provider says that's no different.

How can I fix the problem so that the backend is double protected and the frontend freely accessible?

I wish you a nice evening.

Greetings from Hamburg

Thobie

Moin Thobie,
ask your new provider, if AllowOverride is set to all. Otherwise the Auth from the .htaccess doesn't work.

That means if AllowOverride isn’t set to the index.php (the frontend) the .htaccess doesn’t work by calling the frontend/the website in a browser?

I wish you a nice evenung.

Mario, why would AllowOverride need to be set to all? AuthConfig is for access & authorization as documented.

If you can't edit the apache config files, you need that to be able to make rewrite rules in the .htaccess file.
