Hello.

I am a beginner and I need help in some basic configuration. Basically, I am taking over a website and I want to change all the passwords. I change the password in the .htpasswd.txt file. But then my admin part of the website does not give me access anymore. Where should the password should be changed as well in order for the password change to be effective. Let me know. Thank you.

If we are talking a CMS here or similar, usually in the admin section. Not knowing what this website is exactly, that's about all I can guess at.

Yes and beginner is fine. I did not properly read your post and I apologize. Ignore my first reply.

Really though, without any information to help us help you, how can we?

(1) Have you thought about asking the person you are taking over for?

(2) Is this site located at a hosting company? If so they may be able to help you, they are paid to do it.

(3) If (1) is impossible and (2) is of no help, use apaste.info to post your Apache config so folks here may look at it. Do not forget to post the links to your config that you are given after you post at apaste.info

(4) Also tell us ALL you DO know about this website. You have to remember that there are millions of websites out there and they are not all the same.
