Topic: Does Apache 2 support the virtual sub request?

Operating system: Vista Home Premium 64bit (I know that is ancient but it happens to be the system I'm currently using for the current project)

Browser: Firefox 42

Apache: version 2.4.9 locally, 2 on hosting server

PHP: 5.5.12 locally, can use 4, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5, and 5.6 on hosting server - I have tried all of those versions with the same results.

Locally, I'm using a WAMP setup oo I can use mysql, PHP, and Apache

I am using the virtual() sub request locally and it works just fine.

After I loaded everything to a test site and started testing I ran into a fatal error, the message says that the function, virtual, is unknown.

Is there a configuration setting I can set or change that will allow me to use the virtual() sub request on Apache 2 on the hosting server?

If so, what is it?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Without virtual() I'll be forced to maintain two sets of common header, footer, and menu files. One for the HTML side of the site and one for the PHP side.

I really don't want to have to do that - I mean REALLY don't want to do that

UPDATE

While continuing to search about the virtual() issue, I came upon this at php.net - http://php.net/manual/en/function.virtual.php

This function is supported when PHP is installed as an Apache module or by the NSAPI server module in Netscape/iPlanet/SunONE webservers.

I must have not seen that before because I think that is one of the pages I looked at earlier.

Is there a way, short of asking the hosting company support people (who often give wrong answers) if PHP is installed as Apache module?

Thanks - your reply was quick and you gave me exactly the information I needed.

I used it and ,unfortunately, the returned value from the hosting server is cgi-fcgi

Locally I get apache2handler

I doubt that I'll be able to persuade the hosting company to change that but I'll at least tell them about the problem.
