I am completely new to the idea of running my own server and although I have been doing websites for over 14 years by hosting them on hosting company accounts like godaddy and 1and1 never on my own.
I am running windows 7 and would like to try running a server on my home computer. I downloaded WAMP and got it to show that it was installed but couldn't figure out how to load a site to it that someone else could see.
So the question is where do I start? Do I have to compile the binary's or can I get a package of the server that runs out of the box on a windows machine?
What do I need to be doing at the beginning of this project other than going to class at my local college (that doesn't start till next fall)? |

The downloads here are running out of the box.
A good start is the the post from James Blond, see www.apachelounge.com/viewtopic.php?t=2394 |
