An article about how to configure your web server to implement HTTP compression properly:
One of the ways you can improve website performance is to reduce the amount of data that needs to get delivered to the client. An easy way to reduce the amount of data sent to a client is to compress the content and then transfer it to the client. This can be done with HTTP compression. Despite being a surprisingly simple feature of HTTP, there are numerous challenges which must be addressed to properly use HTTP compression. These challenges are:
1.Ensuring you are only compressing compressible content.
2.Ensuring you are not wasting resources trying to compress uncompressible content.
3.Selecting the correct compression scheme for your visitors.
4.Configuring the web server properly so compressed content is sent to capable clients.

| I wonder why that article is still talking about IE6. IMHO IE6 doesn't matter anymore. Soon IE8 will die with XP. Also on the dev mailing list they are talking about removing the BrowserMatch Blah blah deflate / gzip stuff from the default config and the docs. |
