I was reading through other forums and it seemed that they made more adjustments than me (most probably because they used mod_ssl):
in the httpd.conf file, i did not add any other stuff like loading of modules ( i can't find one for openSSL either..) and so, I did not have the <IfModule openSSL> tags. i do not know whether i need them..
