I am a C/ASM programmer by trade (embedded mostly). I did a lot of work with Perl years ago.

I want to setup a test environment for doing some PHP work. My final script will run on a hosted server on a small website.

I want to test locally, so I was thinking about setting up a 'quick and dirty' server. Is it practical to setup Apache/PHP quickly for such a purpose or is the learning curve high such that I should just use the hosted server over the internet?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
