Want to install an XAMPP Server.
Have heard and read that on windows installation Xampp is just for developer.
We didnt get much traffic on it.
My development server is an XAMPP.
But on working Webserver is this not a good alternative to IIS and other ?
Is this safe enough ?
Have anyone experience about XAMPP and Windows Vista or Windows 7 and the security ?
thanks for answers |

XAMPP is not safe at all. OK there is a XAMPP security check which check some of the security holes. It is not recommend to use XAMPP with access from the internet. This applies to all XAMPP version on all plattforms, not only windows.
XAMPP is not just apache, but many more stuff like a mysql, mail server and so on.
Apache is a very good alternative to IIS and other, if you set it up yourself and know what you do, but XAMPP isn't.
Win7 can configured safe, but it is not a server OS. With more traffic you should use Windows 2008 server. How ever Win7 is ok if you have low traffic. |
