I am running apache 2.2 in vmware with both winxp installed (host/virtual). what happen is I can only visit the site in my virtual machine, if I visit my domain (for example domain.com) on other computer it will say service is unavailabe or page can not be display. I figure maybe its the host IP pointing is wrong. can anyone tell me how to fix that or which IP should I point to (the host machine or virtual machine)? |

What kind of network setting do you use? Bridged? NAT?
How do you resolve the DNS name? hosts file ? DNS server?
Firewall? |

this is how I setup the apache, I just cant get the site to work outside of the virtual pc.
Host computer : windows xp / vmware workstation / no apache or any server software running
virtual computer : windows xp install with basic vmware setting / only apache 2.2 running
Network setting : NAT (used shared host's IP address)
Configuration for apache is fine and I can visit the site
I using godaddy and host name : @ IP point to 127.0.0.1
CName alias : www HOST NAME point to "domain.com"
Host FILE : I have added 127.0.0.1 "domain.com" |

NAT does not work for that. You have to use bridged. So that your vm has its own ip in your network. Than you can reach it from your LAN.
To reach apache from the internet you have to make a portforwarding if you use a firewall / router. Than at godaddy you have to configure your external IP to the domain name. |
