I have a domain with 1&1 web hosting and I just installed Apache on my developer machine to learn about server management and to create a design environment combining MySQL and PHP. I want to host the domain on my machine and I have several options available from my 1&1 control panel, including changing the A-Record to point to my IP address, or changing the name server to mine.
What is involved in either of these, and how much involvement will 1&1 still have with that domain? Is it possible to take it out of their hands entirely? I am pretty new to all this, but I feel it's best to just jump in head first and try, and worst comes to worst I can hand it all back over to 1&1.
Anyway, your thoughts would be appreciated. |

A A-record would be fine. Than your IP will be resolved when asking that name in the A-Record. |
