Hello all.
I'm new to using servers and this is my first time in these forums. I'm in the UK for those to whom it matters.
I want to set up my home windows XP pro (sp2) PC so that family can have access. I need a guide that talks plain english. I have googled all morning, installed and uninstalled apache and am no further forward. Argh!
So, my brother is designing a web site for his wifes new business. I want to set up a test server here so we can develop it together. (He's learning to use flash, I do a bit of HTML, and we both want to know more about hosting in general.) I want my brother to be able to access my PC to upload and download files and view the pages. I have set up apache 2.2.9 and reached the 'it works' stage. I have a high end PC with a reasonably fast ASDL always on connection. I have put an old blanked off hard drive in as E for development work to keep it away from all else.
How do I configure Apache to allow acccess to a dedicated drive, "E:/"?
How do I declare a domain name that my brother can go to?
This is where I need a plain english guide. I can't believe no one has written one, but I can't find it. Please, can someone point me to one?
Many thanks.
Mike. |

You can use an Alias
Or you could change the DocumentRoot from apache.
A domain name you can get from a free DNS like no-ip.com or dyndns.org
Do you use a router or a modem for your ADSL connection? |
