first get your real external ip with a page like this http://whatismyip.com/

If you still can't connect you maybe have to configure a portforwarding into your router / modem. Maybe your firewall(s) is/are blocking to reach it from outside.

I am having the same problem - just posted before finding yours. Port forwarding appears to be set correctly (it's very simple) but I feel something must be missed.

Visit http://lifehacker.com/software/top/geek-to-live--how-to-access-a-home-server-behind-a-routerfirewall-127276.php

for instructions on how to set port forwarding...however, I am having the same problem so I am not sure this is complete - but if I turn it off, I cannot connect locally.

Question:
Most everyone is able to connect without problem - why can I only connect locally?

Answer:
My ISP (verizon) blocks port 80 off-site - chances are, that is what is going on with you.

Call your ISP and see if you can upgrade your account.
