I am slowly driving myself mad over this. My (greatly abbreviated) history is that about a year ago I started looking at MySQL/PHP/Apache as an alternative to Bill Gates's offerings. Initially, I set everything up under Windows XP.
After a while, I decided to take the plunge and try it all out under Linux (OpenSUSE 10.3 at the moment.)
Recently, for reasons of personal convenience, I decided to re-activate my interest in the Windows versions of the packages. But by then I had moved on to Vista.
MySQL installed under Vista Home Premium without a murmur. But Apache2 (using the Windows .msi file) falls over every time I try. If I try to install it "for everybody" on Port 80, I get a warning that another service has use of that Port. If I try for "This account alone" using Port 8080, the same occurs.
I have Windows Firewall disabled, and in McAfee I have excluded Port 80 from the checks, but I still can't get Apache to install.
I have discovered that ActivePorts, which I have previously used to discover the source of Port problems, won't run under Vista.
What on earth am I doing wrong, and/or how do I get round this road-block? |
