I build the latest 2.0.3 RC2 of mod_perl against Apache 2.2.x and Perl 5.8.8.8x. Available at the download page here.
Mod_perl gives you a persistent Perl interpreter embedded in your web server. This lets you avoid the overhead of starting an external interpreter and avoids the penalty of Perl start-up time, giving you super-fast dynamic content. The mod_perl module can provide 100x speedups for your existing CGI scripts and reduce the load on your server at the same time. A few changes to the web server's config is all that is required to run your CGI scripts at lightning speed. More info at http://perl.apache.org/
